Boom Supersonic announced in June 2024 the completion of its Overture Superfactory, located at Piedmont Triad International Airport in North Carolina. This plant, the first in the United States dedicated to manufacturing supersonic passenger aircraft, seeks to redefine global air transport, reaching speeds that double those of current commercial aircraft.

Boom Supersonic Founder and CEO Blake Scholl said at the groundbreaking event that the construction of this factory represents a strategic step in strengthening U.S. leadership in supersonic aviation. The Overture plant, designed to operate on up to 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) , offers a faster, more environmentally friendly alternative for air travelers, supporting Boom and its partners’ commitment to sustainability.

Boom Supersonic to double production

The factory currently has the capacity to produce 33 aircraft per year , with plans to double this figure in the coming years. This expansion responds to growing demand, reflected in an order book that includes major airlines such as United Airlines, American Airlines and Japan Airlines, which anticipate adding these innovative aircraft to their fleets.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper highlighted the Overture Superfactory’s estimated economic impact of $32.3 billion over the next 20 years and generating more than 2,400 direct jobs in the Piedmont Triad region. Additionally, the plant was designed with LEED certification and is estimated to be 40% more energy efficient than other similar facilities , solidifying Boom’s commitment to sustainability in every aspect of its operation.

This achievement follows the successful flight of Boom’s XB-1 demonstration aircraft, which has been approved by the FAA to reach speeds greater than Mach 1. The company is advancing its mission to make supersonic flight accessible through next-generation technologies and sustainable fuels.

With this initiative, Boom Supersonic is positioned at the forefront of innovation in the aerospace industry , bringing economic, environmental and technological benefits, while driving a new era of high-speed commercial aviation. Watch the construction process of the factory in this video!
