Energy companies BKW and Zelestra have signed a power purchase agreement ( PPA ) to develop two solar projects in Italy. This collaboration will plan the construction of two photovoltaic plants in Puglia and Sicily, with a total capacity of 16 MWdc. The projects, Ginosa and Bellomo, will contribute to the decarbonisation of Italy, avoiding the emission of thousands of tons of CO2 each year.

An important alliance between BKW and Zelestra in Italy

Today, Zelestra continues to expand its presence in Italy, with 31 projects in development with a total capacity of 0.5 GW, and has the ambition to triple its portfolio in the next two years. This agreement with BKW represents a step forward in this expansion, and is a clear statement of its focus on sustainability and innovation in the energy sector.

Zelestra’s Country Manager in Italy, Eliano Russo, highlighted the importance of this agreement: “This partnership with BKW is key to consolidating our position in the renewable energy market in Italy. Our goal is to reach a capacity of 1.5 GW by 2026, which reinforces our commitment to sustainable and customized solutions that support the country’s energy transition. “.

For its part, the Swiss company BKW also welcomes this agreement as a step forward in its strategy towards sustainability and growth in the renewable energy sector. Stefan Sewckow, Head of Energy Markets at BKW, said: ” This PPA in Italy is an important step towards our goal of sustainable growth. We are aligned with Italy’s energy objectives and committed to innovation and environmental responsibility.

Solar projects in Ginosa and Bellomo

The Bellomo solar plants , located in Modica, Sicily, and Ginosa, in Puglia, are being developed to generate clean energy and contribute to reducing the country’s carbon footprint. With a capacity of 9.5 MWdc, the Bellomo plant will avoid the emission of approximately 6,500 tonnes of CO₂ annually, while the Ginosa plant, with 6.5 MWdc, will eliminate about 4,500 tonnes of CO₂ each year.
