ACWA Power, the leading private company in global water desalination and leader in the production of green hydrogen, has plans to build the largest green hydrogen plant in Indonesia in collaboration with Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the state electricity supplier in Indonesia and Pupuk Indonesia, a government entity dedicated to the production of fertilizers and chemicals.

GH2: Indonesia’s green hydrogen project
The Garuda Hydrogen Hijau (GH2) project, scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2026, will be based on a capacity of 600 MW generated through solar and wind energy, with an annual production of 150,000 tons of green ammonia . The estimated cost of the project exceeds one billion dollars. The bidding process for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the Garuda Hydrogen Hijau project is anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2024, while financial closure is expected by the end of 2025.
Notably, ACWA Power is expanding its portfolio of green hydrogen projects; Progress on the NEOM green hydrogen project in Saudi Arabia, with a capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year, is at an advanced stage and completion is expected by the end of 2026. In addition, the company has begun the execution of a second project in Uzbekistan, marking the start of works in November 2023.
