Battery manufacturing giant, CATL, has unveiled a new 15-year durable EV battery design for cars and trucks. This product promises a longevity of up to 1.5 million kilometers.

Yutong and CATL have geared this innovation towards the commercial vehicle sector, including buses and trucks of different categories. From Yutong’s perspective, he anticipates that this state-of-the-art battery will drive the future of electric vehicles.
The main innovation is that the batteries maintain their capacity intact during the first 1,000 charge cycles, offering exceptional durability. The warranty on these batteries, the result of a partnership between CATL and Yutong, is 15 years or 1.5 million kilometers. In addition, Yutong has introduced another innovation in batteries with a guaranteed service life of 10 years and up to 1 million kilometers.
Technological advances in CATL batteries
This collaboration between CATL and Yutong began a decade ago, in 2012, with the goal of fostering the joint development of batteries for commercial vehicles while researching new technologies and materials. Now, both partners are looking to expand their global presence, offering new vehicles and battery solutions in international markets.
Yutong buses, equipped with CATL batteries, have already been positioned in more than 40 countries, including key markets such as Italy, France, the UK, Spain and Qatar, demonstrating the global acceptance of its technology. Moreover, this launch adds to CATL’s ongoing advances in battery technology.
Recently, in a collaborative effort with other Chinese automotive giants, including its competitor BYD, CATL is at the forefront of solid-state battery development. This leadership is reflected in the dominance of the global market for electric vehicle battery market, with CATL and BYD by China, with CATL and BYD accounting for more than half of the market.
An EV battery with 15 years of performance and durability
In addition, batteries produced by CATL and BYD are already used in vehicles from renowned brands such as Tesla, Ford, BMW, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz, among others. CATL has also innovated with its “Shenxing Super Fast Charging Battery”, capable of providing 400 km of range with only 10 minutes of charging, and announced a reduction in the cost of LFP battery cells for this year.
Recently, NIO unveiled an alliance with CATL
for the development of batteries for long-life electric vehicles, coinciding with the production of its first 900 V electric propulsion system, which enables ultra-fast recharging.
