AT2 Aerospace, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary specializing in sustainable aviation technologies, has received a $50 million order from Straightline Aviation for the development of the next-generation Z1 hybrid airship . This agreement marks a significant step forward in the transition to eco-efficient air travel .
About the Z1 Hybrid Airship
AT2 Aerospace’s hybrid airship can carry between 12 and 19 passengers and combines lighter-than-air technologies with a hydrogen-based propulsion system . This design enables unprecedented operational efficiency, reducing the carbon footprint and providing an optimal solution for transporting cargo in remote regions.

The collaboration with Straightline Aviation represents a transformative moment in sustainable aviation. Our hybrid airships will transform cargo transportation by offering an environmentally friendly solution while maintaining operational efficiency.
said Dr. Bob Boyd, CEO of AT2 Aerospace.
Features of the Z1
The model ordered by Straightline Aviation features an air-cushioned landing system, allowing it to operate without the need for traditional infrastructure. Its hydrogen- based propulsion technology minimizes environmental impact while delivering efficient performance on long-range flights. Some of its specifications include:
- Load capacity: up to 20 tons.
- Flight range: over 1,600 km without refueling.
- Maximum speed: approximately 120 km/h.
- Dimensions: 100 meters long and 30 meters in diameter.
- Innovative materials: Made with a combination of high-strength composite fibers and lightweight inflatable structures to improve aerodynamics.
We’re excited to launch the hybrid airship together with AT2 Aerospace. This allows us to achieve our customers’ transportation goals and improve the quality of life for millions of people in remote communities around the world.
