In a recent video, Chinese startup Astribot unveiled the latest update to its S1 robot. Unlike other humanoids focused on industrial applications, the S1 is designed to revolutionize work at home. From making waffles to hooping a basketball, this robot looks ready to take on the role of a true home assistant.
In April, when the S1 was unveiled for the first time, it was shown only from the waist up, which generated curiosity about what its complete structure would look like. Now, with its recent unveiling, it is apparent that Astribot decided to equip the S1 with motorized wheels and a single leg that provides stability, sacrificing the complexity of bipedal limbs in favor of a simpler and more reliable configuration.
This design choice facilitates their mobility and improves their efficiency in everyday tasks.

In addition to its innovative design, the video shows how the S1 deftly performs a variety of complex activities, from serving tea to engaging in interactive games with pets through virtual reality. Although Astribot’s website still shows specifications of the previous model, the video suggests significant improvements to its head module and a redesigned chest, adaptations that appear to have been key to enhancing its abilities.
Although the video shows impressive demonstrations, the company has remained tight-lipped on technical details. However, the video does highlight the S1’s ability to execute tasks without the need for teleoperation, which reinforces its potential for the home robot market. The company is expected to begin marketing the robot later this year.
With these improvements, Astribot appears to be one step closer to making the S1 a reality in homes, highlighting its focus on practicality and efficiency rather than complexity. And if what you saw of the S1 in the video above surprised you, watch it practice Kung Fu.
