Bogotá, November 21, 2022.- ARPEL, the association that brings together the main companies in the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, and NATURGAS, the union made up of 29 main natural gas producing, transporting, distributing and marketing companies in Colombia, today signed a memorandum of understanding to contribute to the positioning of natural gas as an energy source of increasing relevance and impact in the regional energy matrix (Latin America and the Caribbean).
This memorandum also seeks to promote collaboration between both associations for the development of the natural gas industry and the positioning of this energy source as a key element in the region’s energy transition. It will also facilitate the transfer of experiences, good practices, information and resources that contribute to the objective of increasing investment and productivity in the energy sector in the region.
Alejandro Stipanicic, president of the ARPEL Board of Directors; Carlos Garibaldi, Executive Secretary of ARPEL; Luz Stella Murgas, President of NATURGAS, and Camilo Morales, Secretary General of NATURGAS signed the memorandum of understanding during the ARPEL 2022 Conference that takes place this week in Lima (Peru), in front of more than 600 representatives of companies from the oil, gas, and gas sectors. and renewable energy in Latin America.
ARPEL and NATURGAS will review the progress of this memorandum of understanding within a period of 2 years and make the pertinent adjustments.
“The natural gas industry is a key player in the energy transition in Latin America, so constituting this important collaboration agreement will allow us to share the best regulatory, commercial, academic and environmental practices for the promotion of natural gas in Colombia and in the region, and contribute to a fair, orderly and responsible energy transition in Latin American countries”, highlighted Luz Stella Murgas, president of NATURGAS.
For his part, the executive secretary of ARPEL, Carlos Garibaldi, ratified that as a result of this memorandum of understanding, the ARPEL conference that brings together the main companies from the public and private sectors of Latin America, government representatives and key players in the region will meet in Cartagena within the framework of the NATURGAS 2024 Congress.
The associations agreed to focus on activities to share knowledge, good practices and lessons learned in everything related to processing, transport, supply, distribution, market development, LNG and new uses and technologies of natural gas.
