ANYbotics organized the first ANYmal Global Research Meet-Up, an event that brought together current and potential university partners during ICRA 2024 in Yokohama. This event served as an important link to strengthen connections within the research community and encourage new collaborations in the field of robotics.

First ANYmal Global Research: a great innovation event

Featured speakers included ANYbotics Senior Director of Robotics and Co-Founder Christian Gehring, Professor and Director of the ETH Robotics Lab and ANYbotics co-founder Marco Hutter, Oxford University Professor Maurice Fallon, and Matthias Eder, researcher at TU Graz. Each of them shared valuable knowledge and experiences that enriched the meeting.

The response to ICRA 2024 was extraordinarily positive, with more than 40 universities from around the world showing considerable interest in ANYmal Research. Each of the feedback obtained from both market research and competitor analysis proved invaluable in strengthening ANYbotics’ position, opening up new opportunities for growth and innovation.

The discussions held by the participants covered various topics within robotics, such as locomotion, navigation and manipulation. These discussions allowed for an in-depth exploration of the latest developments, challenges and possible future directions in each sector, contributing to a deeper and shared understanding.

Global research community manager Benjamin Mottis, along with a team of engineers, demonstrated ANYmal Research’s capabilities and actively engaged with the research community. ANYbotics’ participation in ICRA 2024 was also supported by its local partner in Japan, Nihon Binary.

The ANYmal Research community and co-development

ANYmal Research is a community supporting research in legged robotics, backed by a vibrant network of hundreds of researchers from leading institutions such as the AI Institute, ETH Zurich and Oxford University. Recently, ANYmal Research launched a comprehensive database of all technical publications related to ANYmal related technical publications, totaling about 250 publications from approximately 500 researchers.

According to Satschin Bansal, ANYbotics’ global vice president of strategic alliances and partnerships, “Members contribute and gain insight into the latest advances in robotics, accessing advanced publications and tools, sharing ideas and receiving community support.” This community actively collaborates, fosters innovation and shares software, knowledge and developments to continuously improve ANYmal’s capabilities.

For his part, Maurice Fallon, Professor at Oxford University, expressed his enthusiasm saying, “It was great to present some of the research we have been doing with ANYmal at Oxford over the last 6 years and to make new connections.” ANYmal Research offers a comprehensive platform that includes deep software access for low-level joint control and high-level applications based on a ROS API, providing researchers with the tools needed to develop, test and deploy innovative robotic technologies.
