Anfield obtains approval to begin construction of Velvet-Wood mine in Utah

In addition, the combination of mineral resources, existing infrastructure and regulatory compliance give Anfield a competitive advantage in the U.S. nuclear power supply cycle.

With formal approval from the Utah Department of Oil, Gas and Mining (DOGM), Anfield Energy is ready to begin the construction phase of its Velvet-Wood mine in Utah. This regulatory green light is in addition to the environmental permit previously granted by the U.S. Department of the Interior, positioning the company to move decisively toward production.

Velvet-Wood mine and nuclear fuel supply

The Velvet-Wood project, which contains uranium and vanadium, is emerging as a strategic component to support the country’s growing demand for nuclear fuel. Anfield Energy plans to post the reclamation surety bond with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), fulfilling the requirements to begin formal construction of the site.

Velvet-Wood has a mining history dating back to the 1980s, when approximately four million pounds of U3O8 and five million pounds of V2O5 were mined. The deposit currently has measured and indicated resources of 4.6 million pounds of eU3O8, at an average grade of 0.29%, and an additional inferred resource of 552,000 pounds.

The Shootaring Canyon processing plant, also owned by Anfield, will play a central role in the production stage. Located within one of the most historically productive areas in the country, this facility is one of only three conventional uranium plants currently licensed in the United States.

With uranium consumption exceeding 22 million kilograms per year and domestic production of less than 1%, the United States is seeking to strengthen its self-sufficiency in nuclear fuel. In this context, Anfield’s domestic assets take on particular significance. The regulatory and political momentum in favor of nuclear power during 2025 has created favorable conditions for projects such as Velvet-Wood.

The Plan of Operations submitted by Anfield to state and federal authorities includes technical controls, environmental remediation measures and financial assurances aligned with regulatory standards. This reinforces the company’s position as a responsible player in the nuclear mining sector.
