Amiblu has closed the supply of 20 kilometers of GRP pipes for the Segarra Garrigues canal, a key project to modernize the irrigation system in the province of Lleida. The piping, with diameters between DN400 and DN700, supplies sectors located in the municipalities of Arbeca and Borges Blanques, within the region of Les Garrigues.
Logistical support from Camarles plant
The production of these GRP pipes pipes was carried out at the Amiblu plant in Camarles (Tarragona), from where the company has delivered more than 60 kilometers of material in the last two years. At this stage, the supply began in May and was carried out in collaboration with Sorigué, FCC, Aquambiente, Calaf Constructora and Romero Polo. Execution of the work will be completed before the end of 2025.
The Segarra Garrigues canal promotes a water distribution network for irrigation water distribution network for irrigation which will enable the transformation of dry land areas into irrigated crops and the modernization of existing networks. With a coverage of more than 70,000 hectares and a budget of 1,071 million euros, this infrastructure is in charge of Aigües del Segarra Garrigues, S.A. (ASG), the company responsible for its operation and maintenance.
Advantages of GRP pipes over traditional materials
The use of polyester pipes reinforced with fiberglass fiberglass reinforced polyester (GRP) has proven to be a highly efficient solution for water infrastructure. The company stands out for offering lighter, corrosion-resistant materials with a long service life. These properties allow for lower energy consumption in irrigation operations, which translates into a reduction of up to 30% in energy costs compared to traditional systems.
Amiblu’s experience in large irrigation works extends to various regions of the country. Among the most outstanding projects are the Bronco siphon in Cáceres, the left bank canal of the Porma in León, the works in the irrigable area of Monegros II in Aragón and the efficiency improvement in sectors X and XI of the Flumen canal in Huesca.
