ADC Energy and Seadrill have developed Annu-Life, the world’s first AI platform that accurately predicts the remaining useful life (RUL) of blowout preventer (BOP) components on offshore platforms. Currently, the platform is already operating on 11 drillships in Seadrill’s fleet.
How does Annu-Life work?
Annu-Life works by integrating real-time drilling data, collected directly from the operations of Seadrill, with advanced machine learning models. This intelligence is constantly reinforced with validation from ADC Energy’s technical experts (SMEs) and a database that includes images of elastomer degradation and well features.
The result is a system that accurately predicts how long a BOP component can continue to be used before requiring replacement.
Operational advantages in decision making
The platform has already demonstrated a tangible impact on operational processes. By accurately predicting the actual condition of the BOP’s annular elements, the platform enables drilling crews to make better-informed maintenance decisions, reducing operating costs, minimizing interruptions and improving safety in every operation.
In addition, the information generated facilitates more efficient risk-based planning, which represents aThis represents a significant advance over traditional interval inspection methods.
Extending the platform’s reach
Thanks to the positive results obtained so far, Seadrill and ADC Energy are expanding the use of Annu-Life to also include the ram elements, equally essential components of the BOP system.
This collaboration seeks to establish a new benchmark for predictive maintenance and equipment integrity in the offshore energy sector. It is a step towards the digital transformation of a traditional industry, making operations safer, more efficient and data-driven.
