Fortuna Mining has announced a fatal accident at its Séguéla gold mine in the Ivory Coast. An employee of the fire safety company Mapa Protection Incendie (MPI), subcontracted by Mota Engil, died after a fire extinguisher exploded while he was carrying out maintenance work in the mine’s light vehicle workshop.
Details of the fatal accident
The accident occurred during a scheduled refill of a fire extinguisher, when an explosion occurred, seriously injuring the worker. Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency team and his transfer to the Séguéla City Hospital, the victim did not survive his injuries.
No further injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The company has notified the relevant authorities and has launched an investigation to clarify the causes of the incident and prevent future incidents.
