ABS has granted approval in principle(AIP) to Hanwha Ocean to implement remote control functions on floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units. Such approval follows design reviews conducted by ABS based on the ABS Requirements for Autonomous and Remote Control Functions.

Hanwha Ocean Remote Control Technology and Functions

This project is part of the Offshore Technology Collaboration Agreement (OTCA) between ABS and Hanwha Ocean, which fosters collaboration on innovative projects in three strategic areas: sustainability, digitization and artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity of operational technology.

Remote monitoring technologies are changing the way offshore assets are managed, facilitating continuous data acquisition, advanced analytics and operational forecasting.

According to Patrick Ryan, ABS senior vice president and chief technology officer, these innovations not only contribute to health, safety and quality compliance, but also improve asset performance through real-time decisions and automated control.

James Shon, Hanwha Ocean’s Technical Director, mentioned that with this project they have been able to maximize the operability of the marine plants and improve the safety of the collaborators. He also noted that they will continue to focus on offering advanced solutions equipped with artificial intelligence and digital technologies for their customers.
