The night of Friday 14, in the Industrial Park of Ezeiza was interrupted by a violent explosion. The detonation, reported specifically at the premises of the company Plásticos Lago, dedicated to the manufacture of plastic plastics manufacturingThe force of the explosion was such that the shock wave was felt more than a kilometer and a half away.
Some eyewitnesses and neighbors reported the breakage of glass and minor structures in their homes. Mayor Gastón Granados was one of the figures who described the magnitude of the event, noting that the fire quickly reached other neighboring industries.
The site of the plastics plant and the origin of the fire
According to statements, more than twenty firefighting teams from the Buenos Aires locality and nearby municipalities immediately went to the place of the incident. The flames quickly consumed the raw material shed, which contained plastic elements and diesel oil tanks.
A firefighter in the area confirmed that the work is focused on containing the conflagration with multiple lines of attack. Authorities asked residents to stay indoors with doors and windows closed. Also, many neighbors reported a particular smell in the air, similar to gunpowder, intensifying concerns about the possible toxicity of the smoke.
On the other hand, the human consequences of the large-scale fire activated a vast medical operation. Nearby hospitals, such as the Eurnekian de Ezeiza and the Clínica Monte Grande, went on high alert, preparing for the admission of possible seriously injured people. The director of the Monte Grande Clinic, Carlos Santoro, reported the initial reception of more than twenty patients with polytrauma and burns.
The Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires articulated a network of care under triage criteria. Mild cases were referred to hospitals such as Cecilia Grierson and Néstor Kirchner. Meanwhile, patients with a higher risk were referred to the Bicentennial Hospital, Eurnekian and Balestrini, where a patient with an exposed fracture was admitted. This rapid coordination seeks to optimize emergency care.
The precise origin of the industrial deflagration is still under investigation. Although initially erroneous rumors circulated about the Sinteplast plant, the municipal chief confirmed that the explosion occurred on the premises of Plásticos Lago.
While emergency crews are working around the clock to cut the flames, the opacity of the smoke and the extent of the damage make it impossible to determine the initial source. Some press hypotheses suggest that the detonation could have been triggered by a
