In the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds, PANATERE presented to the world the first two solar furnaces capable of melting 100% recycled steel, a pioneering initiative combining technological innovation, sustainability and industrial sovereignty.

100% recycled steel with solar energy

The system includes two different models, a 30 kW solar furnace capable of reaching temperatures of up to 1,700 °C and melting 100 kilograms of steel in a single operation, and a second, more compact 5 kW model designed for urban and local uses.

Thanks to the concentrated solar energy, these furnaces are able to carry out metallurgical processes without resorting to fossil fuels and conventional and conventional electricity. This breakthrough makes it possible to produce fully recycled stainless steel and copper, with guaranteed traceability and a near-zero carbon footprint.

Why is it so important?

Each year, Switzerland imports approximately 140,000 tons of high-performance steel, which represents a significant dependence and a high environmental burden. With these solar furnaces, it is possible to change that model for a circular, local and emission-free production, being able to reduce the carbon footprint by a factor of 165 compared to conventional processes.

In addition, the furnaces are part of a circular economy in the metallurgical sector, especially in regions linked to watchmaking, where high-quality steel and copper waste is abundant.

The future of steel production lies in the sun

The inauguration was supported by local authorities, energy experts, and strategic partners, underscoring the collaborative nature of the project. The success of these solar ovens opens the door to their replication in other countries, particularly those with high solar radiation and dependence on imported metals.
