The companies Shearwater GeoServices and Searcher have completed the third phase of their 3D seismic acquisition program in the Pelotas Basin. This technical operation consolidates one of the most extensive databases available for operators seeking opportunities in Brazilian waters.

3D Seismic Acquisition and Its Petroleum Exploration Technology

The deployment of the SW Empress vessel has been fundamental to meeting established deadlines. During this stage, 7,500 km² of new data were integrated into the regional library, achieving total coverage exceeding 17,000 km². The use of wide-tow technology enables obtaining a clear image of the marine subsurface, facilitating the identification of complex geological structures.

It is important to note that interest in this region is not coincidental. There is a proven geological connection between the Pelotas Basin and the prolific Orange Basin on the African margin. This conjugate margin relationship suggests that hydrocarbon deposits found in Namibia could have a direct equivalent on the South American side. For this reason, the availability of high-quality seismic information is the determining factor for reducing risk in future licensing rounds.

Likewise, the results delivery schedule is strategic for 2026 investment plans. The processed data will be ready for commercial analysis during the first half of the second quarter of next year. I believe this volume of technical information will be the central axis of upcoming drilling decisions in one of the most promising exploratory frontiers in the region.
