The Revolution Wind offshore wind farm has begun supplying electricity to the New England grid, strengthening regional energy security and providing stability in electricity prices.

A key wind project for the region

Revolution Wind, developed by Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables, marks a significant step forward in the integration of offshore wind energy in the United States. With an installed capacity of 704 MW, the project will be able to power more than 350,000 homes and businesses.

Furthermore, the supply is provided through 20-year fixed-price contracts with electric utilities in Rhode Island and Connecticut. This scheme provides predictability in energy costs for consumers.

Impact of power supply on prices and energy security

In a context of growing electricity demand, the start of operations at this wind farm contributes to stabilizing the regional energy system. According to official estimates, it could generate savings of up to $500 million annually in the wholesale market.

Likewise, its production during the winter months is particularly strategic. During this period, energy supply in New England is typically more limited, which increases price volatility.

ISO New England has highlighted the role of offshore wind energy as a key support for power grid reliability, especially in high-demand scenarios.

Economic and industrial boost

The development of Revolution Wind has also had a significant impact on the local economy. The project has generated more than 2,000 jobs in sectors such as construction, maritime transport, operations, and manufacturing.

Of these, more than 1,000 subcontracted workers have participated directly in its construction, accumulating more than two million work hours.

Additionally, Ørsted has invested nearly $700 million in vessel construction and naval contracts in the United States, boosting the local supply chain and the maritime industry.

Renewable energy for growing demand

The start of operations at Revolution Wind responds to expanding energy demand, driven by consumption-intensive sectors such as advanced manufacturing and data centers.

In this scenario, offshore projects are positioned as a reliable solution to diversify the energy matrix and reduce dependence on conventional sources.

Likewise, initiatives like this reinforce the progress toward more sustainable power systems, combining renewable generation, price stability, and regional economic development.
