Reliance Industries Resumes Direct Crude Oil Purchases from PDVSA

La compra directa de crudo en territorio venezolano

According to official records, the Indian firm Reliance has dispatched the supertanker Helios to the Venezuelan coast to handle a massive hydrocarbon cargo, following direct crude oil purchases from the Caribbean nation. This operation represents a change in distribution logistics that had been maintained under intermediation schemes during recent months.

Direct Crude Oil Purchases in Venezuelan Territory

The vessel Helios docked at the port complex in eastern Venezuela to receive a volume of approximately two million barrels of Merey heavy crude oil. This cargo is destined for the refinery facilities in Sikka, consolidating India as one of the priority destinations for South American crude oil flow. The use of large-capacity vessels optimizes loading times and expedites the discharge of accumulated inventories at storage terminals.

It is essential to note that this commercial exchange is conducted under strict oversight by U.S. authorities. Likewise, the management of funds derived from these sales remains linked to the financial mechanisms established by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in Washington. The current regulatory framework requires that the terms of each contract comply with the specific licenses granted, ensuring that oil operations meet current international legal standards.

Following a considerable operational pause, crude oil flow to Indian refineries has shown a notable increase during the first quarter of the year. Figures indicate that the average barrels per day destined for this region increased substantially compared to previous periods of stagnation. The participation of other entities such as Chevron or trading firms of the caliber of Vitol has facilitated the decongestion of Venezuelan ports, enabling more fluid operations on the country’s eastern coast.
