Petrobras confirms gas accumulation at the Copoazu-1 well in Colombia’s deep waters.
Petrobras confirma descubrimiento de gas en Colombia

Brazilian oil company Petrobras confirmed a new gas discovery in Colombia after identifying an accumulation at the Copoazu-1 exploratory well, located in Block GUA-OFF-0 in deep waters of the Caribbean.

This finding strengthens the gas potential of Colombia’s continental shelf and offers new prospects for energy security in the region.

A new key milestone in offshore exploration

The Copoazu-1 well is located about 36 kilometers off the Colombian coast, in 964 meters of water depth. Likewise, its proximity to the Sirius-1 and Sirius-2 wells, located just 8 kilometers away, confirms the consolidation of a gas province in this area.

Drilling began on November 11, 2025 and continues under operational and environmental safety standards, the company reported.

Technical evidence confirms the gas discovery

During exploration activities, intervals with gas presence were identified through electric logs and fluid sampling. These results not only confirm the well’s primary target, but also reveal new zones with gas potential.

Subsequently, the intervals will be analyzed in the laboratory to determine their characteristics and commercial viability.

A boost to regional energy security

The discovery aligns with Petrobras’ strategy to expand its oil and gas reserves through new exploration frontiers. In this context, the company seeks to ensure energy supply amid the global energy transition process.

Likewise, the development of offshore resources in Colombia is becoming increasingly relevant given the growing demand for gas in Latin America.

Strategic alliance between Petrobras and Ecopetrol

Operations in Block GUA-OFF-0 are carried out by a consortium led by Petrobras, through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro BV – Colombia Branch, with a 44.44% stake.

The project also includes Ecopetrol, which holds 55.56%, consolidating a key collaboration for the country’s energy development.
