Ireland extends FEL 4/19 license and strengthens Inishkea West gas development

Ireland approves FEL 4/19 extension to advance studies and seek a partner for the Inishkea West gas prospect.
Extensión de licencia FEL 419

The Government of Ireland has authorized the extension of Phase 1 of the FEL 4/19 license until January 31, 2028, following the application submitted by Europa Oil & Gas. The decision, communicated by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, allows the company to continue with the technical advancement of the project.

Furthermore, this permit extension provides additional time to consolidate the asset’s development strategy and facilitate the entry of a partner to drive the project forward.

Inishkea West: a key natural gas prospect in Ireland

Within the FEL 4/19 license lies the Inishkea West gas prospect, with an estimated resource of 1.5 TCF. This asset is considered low-risk and holds strategic potential for the country’s energy supply.

Due to its proximity to existing infrastructure, a potential discovery could enter production within a relatively short timeframe. This opens the door to strengthening natural gas availability in Ireland.

Impact on energy security and emissions

The development of domestic gas at Inishkea West could reduce Ireland’s dependence on imported gas. Likewise, local supply would present lower carbon emissions compared to imports from the UK, Norway, or other markets.

In this context, the project gains relevance within the balance between energy security and the transition toward sources with lower environmental impact.

Technical studies and search for partners

Europa Oil & Gas will use the extension period to deepen technical studies of the FEL 4/19 block. In parallel, the company will continue its search for a strategic partner to contribute to the project’s development.

The company’s CEO, William Holland, highlighted that the extension will allow progress toward future stages, including drilling, while strengthening the necessary alliances for its execution.
