Operations at the Habshan gas plant, the largest gas processing center in the United Arab Emirates, were suspended again following an incident resulting from an intercepted aerial attack. The disruption marks the second shutdown since the onset of the conflict in the region.

Habshan Gas Plant and Energy Supply

The Habshan complex, operated by the national company ADNOC, constitutes one of the largest gas processing infrastructures globally. Its facilities integrate five plants with 14 processing trains and an estimated capacity of 6.1 billion cubic feet per day.

Additionally, this energy hub connects to the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline, a strategic infrastructure that enables crude oil exports while bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most sensitive points in global energy trade.

Incident and Response from Authorities

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the incident occurred following the fall of debris generated by the interception of an attack. This caused a fire within the facilities, forcing operations to halt while emergency teams controlled the situation.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, although containment efforts required temporarily suspending industrial activity.

Impact on Regional Energy Infrastructure

This new event adds to a series of attacks targeting energy installations in the Gulf. In parallel, the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery in Kuwait was also struck by drones on the same day, generating fires in several operational units.

This refinery, operated by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, has capacity to process 346,000 barrels per day, which reinforces the significance of these incidents in the balance of regional supply.

Risks to Supply and Energy Security

The recurrence of attacks on critical infrastructure highlights the vulnerability of the energy system in the Middle East. The shutdown of key facilities such as Habshan can affect both gas production and crude oil export routes.

Likewise, pressure on strategic points such as Fujairah and the Strait of Hormuz increases uncertainty in international markets, especially in a context of growing geopolitical tension.
