Eco Wave Power Completes Wave Energy Project at the Port of Los Angeles

Wave energy gains momentum following the completion of a pilot project at the Port of Los Angeles developed in partnership with Shell.

Eco Wave Power has submitted the final report of its wave energy pilot project to Shell International Exploration and Production Inc., confirming the successful completion of the agreement signed in 2024. This advancement positions the technology as a viable option within the renewable energy mix.

Agreement Context and Initial Development

The collaboration between Eco Wave Power and Shell began with a feasibility study on the U.S. coast, which identified 77 locations with potential for implementing wave energy systems.

Based on these results, both companies signed an agreement to execute a pilot program at AltaSea facilities. The program was structured in phases ranging from design to operation.

Pilot Project Execution

The project advanced through all planned stages. Eco Wave Power obtained the necessary regulatory permits, developed the engineering design, manufactured the components, and completed the system installation.

Subsequently, the technology was tested under real marine conditions, enabling evaluation of its performance against tidal variations and operational demands typical of the coastal environment.

Technical and Operational Results

As a result, the pilot project successfully validated multiple key aspects:

  • Effective integration of the system with existing infrastructure was demonstrated without the need for seabed anchoring or submarine cabling.
  • Environmental assessments confirmed minimal impact, complying with regulations such as NEPA and CEQA.
  • The system demonstrated operational reliability under real conditions.
  • Total cost was maintained below one million dollars.

Consequently, Eco Wave Power’s technology was highlighted by the U.S. Department of Energy, which emphasized its advantages in terms of cost and ease of implementation.
