Replacing subsea cables in Ofotfjorden

The technical deployment I reviewed includes the installation of four new 170 kV subsea cables. These lines include integrated fiber-optic technology. The operations will be carried out at depths ranging from 10 to 450 m.

To meet these requirements, a high-capacity construction vessel from the DOF fleet will be used. Logistics planning will begin immediately at the Norway and Scotland offices to ensure the main execution is successful during the summer of 2027.

Likewise, DOF Group’s management has stated that this project aligns perfectly with its strengths in subsea engineering and execution. The company’s experience in high-voltage cable handling is a decisive factor for Statnett. The operation will last approximately 40 days in its most critical phase. Preparatory work and the necessary procurement are expected to begin this year.

The relevance of this contract for the energy sector is indisputable. Replacing the cables in Ofotfjorden ensures that Norway’s power grid maintains optimal safety and efficiency standards.
