Deutsche ReGas secures permanent operation of its LNG terminal in Mukran following key regulatory approval.
Deutsche ReGas logra permiso para terminal de GNL

German company Deutsche ReGas has received final approval to permanently operate its “Deutsche Ostsee” energy terminal in Mukran, consolidating its role in liquefied natural gas supply in Germany.

Regulatory Approval for the LNG Terminal in Mukran

On March 20, 2026, the Staatliches Amt für Landwirtschaft und Umwelt Vorpommern (StALU) granted authorization for the terminal to operate permanently with two floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) equipped with onboard gas generators.

This modification transforms a scheme that had been operating under temporary permits into a stable regulatory framework. Since entering service in 2023, the terminal has used this energy system, initially authorized in April 2024 and extended on several occasions.

An Operating Model Validated Under Real Conditions

In continuous operation, the use of gas generators on the vessels has demonstrated its technical effectiveness. According to the company, the system complies with the limits established in the authorization, particularly regarding acoustic emissions.

In the words of Ingo Wagner, managing partner of Deutsche ReGas, having legal certainty for an already proven operating model is key to business development.

Impact on German Energy Supply

During the current heating period, the Deutsche Ostsee terminal has injected approximately 21 TWh into the German pipeline system. This volume positions it as the main entry point for liquefied natural gas in the country.

Furthermore, it is the only facility of this type in eastern Germany, which reinforces its strategic relevance within the national energy network.

Key Infrastructure in the European Context

The terminal operated by Deutsche ReGas is among the most powerful in Europe during the 2025-2026 winter season. Its FSRU configuration allows operational flexibility and rapid response to demand.

The company continues to develop hydrogen-related projects, including electrolyzers and solutions for derivatives, suggesting a diversification strategy within the energy sector.
