Extension to 2053 Redefines Offshore Production Horizon

BW Energy announced a 25-year extension of the Dussafu Marin field license in Gabon, extending its validity from 2028 to 2053. This agreement with the Ministry of Petroleum and Gas marks a strategic turning point for the company’s main asset.

From a technical perspective, these types of extensions allow for optimizing the final recovery of reserves through staged production strategies. Long-term planning reduces uncertainty in reservoir simulation models and facilitates more robust investment decisions.

Furthermore, BW Energy’s contractual stability is key to implementing advanced enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies, especially in mature offshore fields, where operational efficiency depends on the available exploitation horizon.

Improved Planning: Tripling Production by 2028

With a projected production growth from 30,000 to 90,000 barrels per day by 2028, representing a 200% increase, this BW Energy objective positions Dussafu as a strategic hub within the company’s portfolio.

Technically, this growth demands efficient integration between new drilling, optimization of surface facilities, and reservoir pressure management. Expansion depends not only on new wells but also on maximizing the recovery factor.

This production increase also entails challenges in mechanical integrity, multiphase flow management, and reliability of subsea systems, all critical aspects for maintaining operational continuity in complex offshore environments.

Infrastructure as a Catalyst for New Developments

The license extension supports strategic projects such as MaBoMo Phase 2 and the development of the Bourdon prospect. These projects leverage existing infrastructure, significantly reducing CAPEX costs per barrel produced.

From an engineering standpoint, the use of existing infrastructure allows for accelerating tie-back times and minimizing risks associated with new installations. This is particularly relevant in offshore environments where logistical costs are high.

Likewise, proximity to adjacent licenses such as Niosi and Guduma opens opportunities for satellite developments, optimizing collection and processing networks under an economy of scale approach.

Reserves and Resources: A Solid Foundation for Growth

BW Energy reports over 240 million barrels equivalent in 2P reserves and approximately 390 million in 2C resources, demonstrating significant expansion potential.

From a reservoir engineering perspective, this combination of proven reserves and contingent resources allows for designing progressive development strategies, aligning investments with asset maturity and market conditions.

Finally, the extension until 2053 provides the necessary time to convert resources into reserves through drilling campaigns, advanced seismic studies, and optimization of dynamic models, thus ensuring sustainable and technically sound growth.
