Azincourt Energy has announced its summer exploration program at the Big Hill lithium project, located in southern Newfoundland, Canada. This project covers an extension of 7,500 hectares and focuses on the exploration of lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT).
This property is located within the Burgeo Plutonic Complex and several granite dikes can be seen that cross the Burgeo granites. In addition, coarse-grained pegmatite dikes over 2 meters wide and 20 meters long have been identified to the south of the property, which are also expected to be present on the Big Hill exploration licenses.
Big Hill lithium project: future exploration plans
No historical lithium-specific exploration work has been conducted on the Big Hill licenses to date. The initial field program for the project will be carried out in several phases.
Phase One will focus on the acquisition of the high-resolution satellite Vivid Standard 30cm Imagery Mosaic, 5m CE90 Accuracy, 4-Band (BGRN), Cloud-Optimized; in remote-sensing pegmatite mapping using Sentinel imagery to generate additional targets and in the helicopter-supported ground verification exercise focused on high-priority geophysics, satellite imagery, and remotely-sensed targets.
The first phase is expected to start in mid to late July. For its part, phase two will be carried out in follow-up to the results obtained in the previous phase and any additional objectives generated.
“We are excited to start and perform significant exploration work at Big Hill,” said Trevor Perkins, Vice President of Exploration.
Perkins noted that the area has limited exploration for lithium and the nearby Kraken discovery underscores the possibility that other lithium deposits exist that should not be overlooked.
