The Asia Pacific region’s efforts towards a sustainable energy future received a significant boost with the announcement of a strategic collaboration agreement between TotalEnergies and Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd , Petronas’ clean energy solutions company. This association aims to develop renewable energy projects in the region .

This association is based on a shared vision of decarbonizing the energy sector and promoting sustainable practices. Both companies come together with the objective of implementing action plans that include the adoption of best practices to reduce methane emissions, improve energy efficiency and promote electrification with low carbon energy .

A notable project arising from this collaboration is the Pleasant Hills Solar Project in Queensland, Australia, which has a capacity of 100 MW. This project will provide low-carbon electricity to gas production and processing facilities in the Roma field. TotalEnergies and Petronas each own a 27.5% interest in the Gladstone LNG project, which is operated by Santos.

TotalEnergies-Petronas: a powerful partnership

“We are pleased to join forces with our long-standing partner Petronas, through Gentari, to deploy renewables in Asia-Pacific and decarbonise our own facilities by leveraging our respective strengths – through this Strategic Partnership Agreement, we are paving the way for very concrete action plans ranging from implementing best practices to eliminate methane emissions to energy efficiency and low-carbon electrification,” said Julien Pouget, Asia Pacific Senior Vice President for Exploration and Production and Renewables at TotalEnergies. “The 100MW Pleasant Hills Solar Project, which will help reduce emissions from Gladstone LNG, is the first material implementation of this agreement.”

“To achieve our joint decarbonisation goals, it is critical to leverage all of our capabilities, capacity and resources efficiently. This includes optimizing our existing partnerships and working to decarbonise our own business entities. Therefore, this partnership will provide a new momentum in our net-zero efforts and build the right ecosystem for growth in net-zero and clean energy solutions,” commented Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari.

During the Energy Asia Conference in Kuala Lumpur, an agreement was signed uniting two industry leaders with the joint goal of driving the adoption of renewable energy solutions . Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Asia Pacific for Exploration and Production and Renewables at TotalEnergies and Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari, formalized this collaboration in the presence of Patrick Pouyanné, President and CEO of TotalEnergies, and Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President of Gentari and Chairman and CEO of the Petronas Group.
