Russian energy giant Gazprom has started using domestically-made unmanned KAMAZ trucks to transport cargo in its Arctic oil fields.
Specifically, the company reported on May 5 that cargo vehicles without drivers are used on a 140-kilometre route that connects the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field with the town of Tazovski, on the Siberian peninsula of Guidan, located in the Autonomous District from Yamalia-Nenetsia.
Safety and precision on every journey: Gazprom’s unmanned trucks are equipped with state-of-the-art sensors
Travel safety is guaranteed by a satellite navigation system. Likewise, the trucks are equipped with a constellation of sensors of different types that create a digital map of the route, track objects on the road and are capable of detecting obstacles 200 meters in advance. The control of the column of KAMAZ trucks is carried out via a ‘software’ designed in Russia.
From Gazprom Neft, a subsidiary of the parent company, they emphasize that the use of unmanned transport will boost the efficiency of logistics in its northern deposits and will increase the volume of supply of necessary equipment and materials. After the closure of the ice roads outside the winter period, the trucks will continue to transport loads in places that are accessible for land transport during the summer.
