The Portuguese company EDP Renewables completed the construction project for its largest wind power complex in Brazil, which has 14 parks, 138 wind turbines and has a total installed capacity of 580 megawatts (MW) and, according to estimates by the Portuguese company, could produce enough energy to supply more than 1.5 million people a year.

This complex includes the Monte Verde I-VI, Boqueirao I-II and Jerusalem I-VI wind farms, which together have the capacity to produce some 3,000 gigawatt hours per year (GWh/year).

The 180.6MW Jerusalem I-VI wind farm began construction in January 2021.

For its part, Monte Verde I-VI began construction in April 2021. The project has an installed capacity of 319.2MW and consists of six parks.

While, the Boqueirao I-II wind farm began its construction in June 2021 and has 79 MW of installed capacity.

“EDP Renewables is proud to inaugurate the Boqueirao, Jerusalem and Monte Verde wind farms, making a significant contribution to harnessing the energy potential of Rio Grande do Norte, a state that has led wind energy production in recent years”, said Duarte Bello. , Director of Operations of EDP Renewables for Europe and Latin America.

He added: “We will continue to monitor the acceleration of renewable energy in Brazil, with more than 7 GW of wind and solar power under development in the country, coming online in the coming years.”
