According to Australian officials, it is “a historic agreement” and they estimate that the hydrogen industry will generate more than 16,000 jobs.

Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen and Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Rob Jetten signed the Memorandum in the port of Rotterdam during Bowen’s visit to Europe, saying it will “promote cooperation in renewable energy matter”. Australia seeks to work with international partners in pursuit of shared clean energy interests, they stressed.

The agreement proposes to establish a large-scale hydrogen network between the two countries. This alliance includes establishing hydrogen trading policy, standards and certification schemes; port infrastructure and supply chain development; innovative hydrogen technologies, including shipping, equipment and services; and government policies on security, social license and regulations on the matter.
