According to a report from the World Energy Trade portal, ExxonMobil reported that its subsidiary Imperial Oil will invest USD 560 million to build the largest renewable diesel plant in Canada.

Ground preparation work and initial construction have already begun. It is estimated that the production of renewable diesel will begin in 2025 and the project would generate 600 direct jobs in construction.

The project will be located at Imperial Oil’s Strathcona refinery and is expected to produce 20,000 barrels of renewable diesel per day.

The renewable diesel plant is expected to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from Canadian transportation by 3 million metric tons per year. It will use low-carbon hydrogen produced using carbon capture and storage technology, with the goal of helping Canada meet low-emission fuel standards.
