The Fund for Non-Conventional Energies and Efficient Energy Management (FENOGE) and the Mining-Energy Planning Unit (UPME), with support from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, for the first time in Colombia, will finance a study of the order of 5,000 million pesos that will define the technical specifications required for the construction of a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission line.

With the implementation of this transmission line, Colombia advances in the implementation of state-of-the-art technology. This will allow large amounts of electricity generated through Non-Conventional Energy Sources (FNCE) to be transported efficiently and with fewer losses to consumption centers.

Thus contributing to the energy security of the system, to the promotion of the diversification of its energy matrix, to the competitiveness of its productive apparatus and to the protection of the environment.

The FENOGE Directorate highlighted that the plan is to encourage, promote and incorporate new renewable energy projects in La Guajira to the National Interconnected System (SIN). He added that, for the first time, in Colombia, together with UPME, the study will be financed to define the technical specifications. The purpose is to carry out the construction of the first direct current high voltage electrical transmission line.
