The project seeks to capitalize on the potential of quantum computing that promises to one day analyze millions of pieces of data and make key decisions in only a fraction of the time taken by traditional data analysis technologies.

As part of the collaboration to drive innovation and its commitment to sustainability, YPF will work with Microsoft to explore the use of quantum computing technologies with a focus on the development of transitional power sources, and the retraining of technical teams from YPF.

YPF intends, through this project, to strengthen the growth of the renewable energy area and, with it, its commitment to sustainability from development to management and use of this type of energy.

The project began in April with a complete training program for YPF’s digital technology teams in skills and knowledge about quantum computing, a key technological resource for the acceleration and digital innovation of one of the most important companies in the country.

It will be led by regional and global Microsoft experts and it is expected that after the training, possible areas of application for pilot projects will be defined during this year 2022.

“We want to maintain our leadership, focusing our talent on the understanding and application of cutting-edge technologies, which will be in common use in 5 or 10 years, and which will mark a turning point in the ability to solve complex problems, inherent to the energy industry. and its ecosystem”, affirms Sergio Fernández Mena, VP of Digital Technologies at YPF.

“Quantum computing implies a paradigm shift, has enormous potential and is going to revolutionize the way in which organizations work and solve our problems. For this reason, YPF’s commitment to learn and incorporate it into its operations in the development of renewable energies is key for the future of the company and for that of society,” says Martín Sciarrillo, CTO and Director of Technology at Microsoft Argentina.
