The superadobe was created by Nader Khalili, an Iranian-American architect, who, at the age of 38, decided to travel through the deserts of Iran, where he learned traditional construction techniques.

This is how Khalili developed the superadobe technique, which consists of using dry earth to create buildings. An ecological alternative, where energy efficiency is the main thing.

This is based on the superimposition of sacks filled with earth, barbed wire is placed between courses that gives consistency to the structure and they are later covered. It is a simple and straightforward construction technique.

This type of construction technique has many advantages: low cost, short execution times, resists hurricanes, tidal waves and earthquakes, insulates against noise, cold and heat, multiplicity of designs and increases the energy efficiency of the home.

To build with the superadobe technique, a stable ground is required, it begins by excavating the area where the house will be located to implant the base. Then, cloth sacks are used that are filled with sand, stacked and tied to each other so that they are fixed.

Subsequently, the shape, edges and windows begin to be designed, leaving the holes for them. As you go up, the structure is closed, with the same bags.

When the structure is made, it is covered with a mixture of sand and water, in such a way that it creates a very dense mud that can be applied to the bags to cover them and to plug the cracks.

That same mixture is used to cover the floor, shape window frames, create a porch, it is a very solid mixture, when it hardens. When it dries, it is sanded and everything will be polished.

According to Nader Khalili, “a small superadobe house can be made in one or two days, if three people participate, and without knowing how to do it.”

Its low cost and short execution times make this an optimal construction system for social and humanitarian projects.
