A team of engineers based in the Chinese city of Tianjin have developed an electric car that is powered entirely by solar energy and uses no fossil fuels or external power sources, making it truly emission-free, according to a local media report. quoted by Electrek.
The country’s first purely solar-powered car has begun a test tour of mainland China. The vehicle, called Tianjin, was developed in just five months by 42 companies and three universities in the country.
The surface area of the car’s solar panels is 8.1 square meters, while the battery power ratio reaches 330 Wh/kg. Its batteries generate a maximum of 7.6 kWh of electricity on a sunny day.
Its level of autonomous driving is very high, L4 or more. The L4 level of automation assumes that a car reacts by itself and without human intervention in the event of any unforeseen situation or failure.
The Tianjin is positioned as a compact car with a three-seat layout. The vehicle measures 4,080mm in length, 1,770mm in width and 1,811mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm and a weight of 1,020kg. While, its maximum speed is 79.2 km/h.
