The builders of the first section of the President Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline in Argentina detailed how the work is progressing in the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology machinery.

Referents from the companies UTE Techint-Sacde and BTU agreed that the deadlines are challenging, but they are constantly seeking to incorporate technology that favors the process at each stage. The joint venture formed by the companies Techint and Sacde will carry out a total of 440 kilometers while BTU will do the same for 131 kilometers.

For the work, the executive director of Sacde, Pablo Brottier highlighted the incorporation of the automatic welder: “it is a kind of robot that takes hold of the pipes and welds with multiple torches in such a way that the welding precision is very high. The traditional process is to weld, then X-rays of the welds are taken and errors are detected in the system”, he explained. This welder can “correct any defect or failure in real time. One of the main causes of pipeline delays is having to redo welds.

For his part, the director of Techint, Gustavo Gallino, recalled that it will be the first time that the welder is used in Argentina, “we have used it in other projects, it is not that we are going to come to try. In turn, he commented that drones will be used for “measurement of progress, measurement of excavation, location, in a determined way of all the tubes. We are going to put everything that is within reach within the new technologies at the service of the project”.

For his part, the director of BTU, Carlos Damián Mundin appointed the incorporation of semi-automatic welders for the section that goes from the province of La Pampa, to the final head of the work in the vicinity of Salliqueló, Buenos Aires.
