Panama is preparing to update its Nationally Determined Contribution (CDN), a space in which countries determine their objectives and commitments to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that cause climate change and adapt to the effects adverse climate change.

According to a press release from the Ministry of the Environment of Panama, they assure that with this exercise the isthmus hopes to increase its climate commitments to the highest possible levels and with the most up-to-date climate information and thus lay the foundations for inclusive, resilient development and low in GHG emissions.

The director of Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment of Panama, Ligia Castro de Doens; He pointed out that a review is being considered, together with the key actors, of the goals and progress in the implementation of the commitments presented at the end of 2020 by the country before the international community in its fight against the current climate crisis, taking into account the most up-to-date climatic data available to the country.

For the implementation of this agenda, they have made groups of inter-institutional committees with the purpose of creating the framework that enables its effective implementation, for which they establish five (5) strategies of universal access (ENACU), rational and efficient use of energy ( ENUREE), electric mobility (ENME), distributed generation (ENGED) and the innovation of the national interconnected system (ENISIN).
