Chihuahua Mining Cluster reported that employment in the mining sector has registered an increase of 11% from the end of 2021 to date. The president of the Chihuahua Mining Cluster, Pablo Méndez Alvídrez, detailed the reasons that have driven job growth.

Méndez indicated that one factor is the recovery and growth of mining activity in recent months. Also, it is due to the incorporation of workers who were previously in the contractor regime or worked directly with them. “Now they are hired by mining companies,” said the head of this body.

It was also highlighted that the number of women in the industry has had a considerable increase compared to the end of last year and so far this year. At the end of 2021, 15% of the workforce corresponded to the total participation of women in metallurgical mining employment. “We have observed an advance of two percentage points; that is to say, the participation has advanced to be 17% of our workforce”, he explained, an increase that represents almost 66,000 women working in the sector.

At the end of 2021, the mining sector created nearly 40,000 new direct jobs, registering a total of 406,179 jobs; 10.4% higher than the previous year.
