Afghanistan signed a contract to purchase 350,000 tons of oil from Iran, the Ministry of Finance announced today.
The Ministry indicated that the contracted import will begin in the coming days and will significantly reduce fuel prices in the country, reflected the Ariana News portal.
Representatives from the ministries of finance, foreign affairs, trade and industry, the central bank and the Afghan National Standards Authority visited Iran and signed an agreement with a private company to import that amount of fuel, a statement said.
Abdul Ghafor, head of the Afghanistan Oil and Gas Corporation, added that agreements will also be established with Russia and Turkmenistan to acquire oil and control its price in the country, reported the TOLO News channel.
The two sides held talks on quality, tariffs, transit and facilities for traders, and agreed to form a joint committee on the construction of the gas pipeline and joint refineries, the Afghan news agency The Khaama Press reported.
