Mining activity generates 240,000 direct jobs in the 18 regions where it is developed, Angela Grossheim, executive director of the National Mining, Petroleum and Energy Society (SNMPE), said today.
“For every direct job in the mining sector there is an indirect job in the economy,” he explained during the presentation of the Confiep study “Policy proposals in favor of the business fabric within the framework of the 2030 Agenda”, prepared with the technical assistance of the ILO Bureau for Employers’ Activities.
However, he commented that one of the most important aspects of this sector is that it has suppliers of all types of activity and of all sizes. “Local suppliers, artisans and communal companies, among others, are included,” he added.
Grossheim pointed out that mining activity is an engine that generates the growth of certain industries. He mentioned the metalworking industry that in ten years not only doubled its production, but also tripled its exports.
The objective is to take this progress to other sectors of the national economy, emphasized the executive director of the SNMPE. In this sense, he commented that innovation is essential to increase productivity and thus the competitiveness of companies.
In this context, he said that they have a platform that allows partners in the mining and energy sector to connect with the entire innovative ecosystem such as the Government, suppliers, academia, among others.
For this they have the Symposium on Technology, Innovation and Robotics, in addition to the award for innovation. “We are looking for the supplier sector to improve in everything that corresponds to innovation and technology,” said Grossheim.
