Ministry of Energy and Mines will optimize lithium exploration in Peru

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) formed a sectoral working group to take actions to optimize exploration activities and an eventual stage of lithium exploitation in the country, said the head of the sector, Alessandra Herrera.

“We resume a transcendent management, relegated due to various circumstances, in relation to various strategies and measures to be prepared in the responsible and sustainable management of the use of strategic minerals, such as lithium,” he explained.

During his participation in the closing of the Perumin 35 Mining Convention, in Arequipa, he maintained that the mining sector promotes Peru as a world reference to attract more investments in exploration with a new vision in mining, which involves caring for the environment and avoiding social conflicts.

“We manage the development of the mining activity, since we have ongoing operations that comply with environmental and socially responsible standards. New operations that are destined to be world benchmarks in mining, which will contribute approximately 300,000 fine metric tons of copper to our country, only in their first year of production,” he said.

The minister highlighted the important contribution of mining that shows the best socioeconomic indicators during the last decade for the benefit of the country’s development.
