Siemens Gamesa has closed a deal with Acen Corporation (ACEN), a renewable energy company in Southeast Asia, to supply 14 units of SG 5.0-145 turbines in the Philippines following the country’s first round of renewable energy auctions.

Last year ACEN also signed the country’s largest wind project for the 160 megawatt (MW) Pagudpud wind farm in Balaoi and Caunayan, Siemens Gamesa said in a statement.

The 70 MW Capa wind farm, located in Caparispisan, Ilocos Norte province, is expected to be completed and start operations in the first quarter of 2024. Siemens Gamesa also secured a contract to provide five years of operation and maintenance services for this project.

The first 81 MW wind farm in Caparispisan, North Luzon Renewables, was installed in 2014 and has operated as ACEN’s largest wind project in the Philippines. This wind farm was also supplied by Siemens Gamesa.

To date, Siemens Gamesa has installed 60% of the country’s total wind power capacity. On the other hand, the Philippines completed in June the first round of auctions of approximately 2,000 MW of various renewable energy projects, which is an important step in the development of indigenous and clean energy sources at competitive prices and in attracting investment to the renewable energy sector.
