Southern Peru to invest US$10 billion in five mining projects

The executive president of Southern Peru; Oscar Gonzales Rocha, indicated that the company plans to invest USD 10,000 million in five mining projects in Peru; “as long as it has the support of the Government and the communities”.

The executive pointed out that mining production in Los Chancas (Apurímac) and Michiquillay (Cajamarca) total US$ 5 billion. Tia Maria (Arequipa), Cuajone Expansion and the new smelter in Ilo (Moquegua) represent another US$ 5 billion.

Regarding Michiquillay, located in Cajamarca, Oscar Gonzales Rocha said that they have the authorization and have started explorations to confirm the reserves that Anglo American reported when they bought the project.

“It is also going to take two years and it is a project that will increase the production of copper and other minerals for the benefit of the company and the country,” Gonzales added.
