Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy (DoE) signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy to explore opportunities in the energy sector between the two countries.
According to Oil&Gas, the terms of the agreement include that both parties will seek to explore opportunities for collaboration in capacity building and the exchange of knowledge and information, supporting joint projects and initiatives and promoting the development of bilateral scientific, technical, technological, administrative and commercial cooperation. in the energy field.
All this is in line with the commitment of the two entities to collaborate in various fields of interest to achieve their common goals, diversify energy sources, improve energy efficiency and ensure access to reliable, sustainable and affordable energy.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Department of Energy, Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, and Jaime Amin Hernández, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Colombia to the United Arab Emirates, who signed on behalf of the Colombian Minister of Energy and Mines, Diego Mesa, together with officials from both entities.
According to Oil&Gas, Al Rumaithi assured that “the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy is committed to enhancing cooperation and building partnerships with relevant authorities in countries around the world.”
He added, “We believe the partnership is a powerful approach to achieving our objectives, developing the energy sector, improving energy efficiency and meeting the needs and requirements of the local market for reliable and sustainable water and energy supply now and in the future. This, in turn, supports Abu Dhabi’s plans for sustainable economic development.”
For the official, “the energy sector constantly needs more expertise to adopt advanced energy technologies, improve the sector’s infrastructure and provide it with trained professionals capable of achieving all our strategic objectives. We look forward to cooperating with the Ministry for the benefit of both parties and taking advantage of our combined experiences to create a model of cooperation in the energy sector”.
Likewise, Minister Mesa expressed that Colombia continues to bet on the energy transition as the means to achieve and guarantee a reliable, self-sufficient and resilient energy matrix.
“We recognized this as a shared objective with the UAE and therefore decided to establish a strategic partnership between the Ministry and the DoE that will allow us to complement and promote the efforts of both nations to rapidly deploy non-conventional renewable energies, develop low-carbon renewable energies. technologies, and address and reverse the effects of climate change,” the head of the Mines and Energy portfolio specified.
