Sharp Energy Solutions Europe expands its PV business in Chile, with several million US dollars in JCM grants for solar panels. The objective is to develop photovoltaic projects based on partnership initiatives in Chile to take advantage of JCM subsidies.
The collaboration includes JCM-compatible projects for any open field photovoltaic installation. One element of interest is the owners of active stand-alone systems in Chile with PV investments already planned, who will have the financing and amortization plan available to them (e.g. the stabilized price system applicable for PMGD or corporate PPAs).
As part of this collaborative initiative, Sharp guides partners through the entire JCM process and ensures that the project holder is able to leverage subsidies in the amount of approximately 40% of the PV panels.
The grant program is known as the Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) and was launched by the Government of Japan. This is a project-based credit program to promote the dissemination of technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in 17 different countries.
The Government of Japan subsidizes the PV installation in exchange for a share of the carbon credits generated by the project (one carbon credit represents the right to emit one ton ofCO2). In this regard, Sharp has already successfully completed a large number of projects in Mexico, Thailand, Mongolia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos and Palau, has numerous projects underway in Vietnam, Ethiopia and Chile under the JCM program, and is responsible for the implementation, registration and supply of associated modules. The JCM program subsidizes about 40% of the cost of a project’s photovoltaic panels.
In addition to its products and access to JCM subsidies, Sharp brings 60 years of experience in the PV business, especially in the field of technical planning, as well as extensive expertise in the area of project development for commercial, industrial and solar farm PV systems. The partnership with Sharp allows partners to benefit from the great advantages of a module supplier. Two examples are direct access to production capacity and extensive experience in the JCM, which subsidizes approximately 40% of PV panels.
