The Kawasaki Robotics company presented its robotic goat Bex, during the Tokyo 2022 International Robot Exhibition, capable of moving on its four legs or with wheels that it has installed on its ‘knees’, depending on the surface on which it is.
Although it has a kind of ‘mount’ and a handlebar that allow a person to climb on it, its main function is not to move human beings but to transport loads, according to Masayuki Soube, development manager of the Robust Humanoid program. Kawasaki platform.
This robotic goat can be equipped with a camera and controlled remotely, it is capable of carrying up to 100 kilograms, and its structure can be adapted to meet different customer requirements.
“Bex can carry light cargo, like materials on a construction site,” Soube said, noting that “the other application is inspection.” “In a vast industrial plant, Bex can look around her and her camera images can be remotely checked to see what the instruments are doing. Bex can also transport human-harvested crops,” he added.
On the other hand, he stated that, although Bex’s base corresponds to that of a “legged” robot, the upper part is not fixed and he announced that he is thinking of adapting it according to the use given to the artifact. “Kawasaki will focus on the four lower body legs and will want to provide them as an open innovation platform,” he explained.
