Iberdrola’s presence in Australia advances with the energy storage systems located in New South Wales. The infrastructures confirm the group’s strategy of accelerating electrification through infrastructures that provide grid stability and support for renewable generation.

Electric storage systems as an Australian backbone

The award of a long-term energy services agreement by the state government for the Kingswood project places Iberdrola in a relevant position in regional electricity planning. This battery will reach a capacity of 1,080 MWh and is designed to supply power for eight hours at a time during times of high demand.

The Kingswood development stands out for its ability to meet the electricity consumption of tens of thousands of homes during peak usage. The project is progressing through the regulatory process after receiving a favorable recommendation from the state planning agency, reinforcing its viability within the New South Wales energy roadmap.

In parallel, Iberdrola Australia commissioned the Smithfield battery in western Sydney. With 130 MWh of storage, this facility was completed ahead of schedule and has a stable contract that guarantees long-term revenues. Its capacity allows it to serve around 20,000 homes and improve the grid’s operational flexibility.

Australia is also consolidating its position as one of the group’s international priorities. The local subsidiary manages a portfolio of more than 2,000 MW of assets in operation and under construction, aimed mainly at commercial and industrial customers who demand clean and reliable supply.

Finally, as part of the 2025-2028 strategic plan, Iberdrola plans to allocate more than €1 billion to the Australian market. The combination of regulatory stability, high credit rating and long-term contract mechanisms makes the country a favorable environment for further deployment of storage and renewable solutions.
