At a high-level meeting with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the leaders of TotalEnergies and Galp consolidated their strategic cooperation to drive the responsible development of Namibia’s energy resources country’s energy resources.
During the meeting, Patrick Pouyanné (CEO of TotalEnergies) and Paula Amorim (president of Galp) informed the head of state about the reorganization of licenses in the Orange Basinwhich is key to Namibia’s hydrocarbon potential. TotalEnergies takes over the operation of License PEL 83, which hosts the Mopane discovery. Galp, on the other hand, incorporates the PEL 56 and PEL 91 licenses, which include the Venus discovery.
TotalEnergies and Galp: progress towards investment decision
The companies presented their future plans to the government. In the case of Venus, they are working on a development concept already defined, and the final investment decision is expected to be made in 2026. At Mopane, TotalEnergies plans to start a three-well campaign in the same year, with the objective of strengthening the knowledge of the field and moving towards its exploitation.
Both companies emphasized their intention to generate local employment, promote the development of technical skills and strengthen the national industry. The importance of a clear regulation to facilitate the implementation of the next phases of the project was also stressed.
TotalEnergies and Galp reaffirmed their long-term vision in the African country, projecting Namibia as a new strategic pole on the global energy map.
