Indian operator Cairn Oil & Gas has formally notified the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of a gas production discovery in the Ambe block, located in the shallow waters offshore West Coast. The resource discovery occurred specifically in the Ambe-2A appraisal well, exploring deep levels beneath the main reservoir in the Miocene-Tarkeshwar geological formation.

Small field gas production strategy

This asset represents the second project under the Discovered Small Field(DSF) modality that the company plans to bring into commercial production. Following the previous success at Hazarigaon, the company is focusing its efforts on this 728.19 km² block to strengthen the national energy supply. The organization also plans to drill two additional wells to accurately delineate the gas and condensate recovery potential in the area.

The technical execution at Ambe is highlighted by the use of a Subsea Template(SST) integrated to a conductor-supported platform. This technology facilitates cluster drilling and optimizes structural stability on the seabed. According to technical advances, they are essential for making fields that were previously considered marginal viable. The initiative is aligned with the Samudra Manthan Mission, which aims to intensify the offshore reserves to reduce dependence on imports. to reduce dependence on imports.

Cairn Oil & Gas, under the backing of Vedanta Limited, seeks to contribute 50% of the country’s total oil and gas production. The operator currently manages 44 strategic blocks and maintains a vision of sustainability with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2030.

The integration of these new volumes of natural gas natural gas is essential to guarantee the stability of the energy system and promote industrial growth based on sources with a lower environmental impact.
