Shearwater Geoservices has recently been selected by ExxonMobil Trinidad and Tobago Deepwater Limited to conduct an extensive 3D seismic survey in deep water offshore Trinidad and Tobago.

The campaign will cover approximately 6,000 square kilometers and is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with an estimated duration of 5 months. The project seeks to generate high-resolution seismic data that will serve as a basis for future energy exploration activities in the region.

Advanced technology and large-scale operation

The acquisition will be carried out by the Amazon Warrior, one of Shearwater’s largest seismic vessels, which will operate using its Isometrix multicomponent system, a technology that enables more accurate imaging of the seafloor due to its ability to capture signals in multiple dimensions.

This 3D seismic survey survey represents one of the most significant programs in the region in recent years, and reinforces the commitment of both companies to responsible exploration based on accurate scientific data.

Importance and context of the operation

For ExxonMobil, this is an investment in exploration to secure future oil and gas reserves. oil and gas reserves in a region where it already has operations, and the data will help them decide whether it is worthwhile to drill expensive deepwater wells. For Shearwater, on the other hand, it is a significant contract that strengthens its position in the market, demonstrates the capability of its cutting-edge technology and gives it visibility for future work.

For Trinidad and Tobago, this type of project can lead to new discoveries that extend the life of its energy sector, which is key to the country’s economy. It also generates local economic activity (port services, supplies, etc.).

Shearwater and ExxonMobil aim to transform this data into concrete opportunities, contributing to the energy development of the Caribbean through exploration based on state-of-the-art technology.
